Getting to Know Each Other...

So I posed the following three questions to our family members I have email addresses for:

Q1: What are your plans for the Labor Day weekend?

Q2: What’s your fondest childhood memory of getting ready to go back to school?

Q3: If you have kids, what are they saying/feeling about going back to school?

Here's the FIRST response I received. BIG THANKS to our cousin Shonda from Lewisville, TX for replying.

Q: What are your plans for the Labor Day weekend?
A: I don't have any plans for the labor day weekend other than work.

Q: What’s your fondest childhood memory of getting ready to go back to school?
A: I don't know what my fondest memory would be. I've always enjoyed going to school. I was most excited about meeting my new teacher and new friends. Of course back to school shopping was always interesting, especially for me and my mom.

Q: If you have kids, what are they saying/feeling about going back to school?
A: My oldest is excited about entering the 3rd grade. My youngest is in daycare still and doesn't really have any input on how she feels about it. I'm glad they're back to school!!

Since Shonda got the party started (thankfully!!!), I guess I'll join in and answer the questions too:

Q: What are your plans for the Labor Day weekend?
A: Sleep in late (at least one morning because Lord knows I am NOT a morning person), enjoy leisurely breakfasts (I'm always eating on the run in the morning), and catching up with friends. I've also been invited to a concert featuring Jonathan Butler and some other great jazz musicians.

Q: What’s your fondest childhood memory of getting ready to go back to school?
A: I really enjoyed school as a child too, just like Shonda. The anticipation was thick for me during the week leading up to school. When my mom and I started my back-to-school shopping I would get even more excited about it.

Q: If you have kids, what are they saying/feeling about going back to school?
A: I have a daughter who's 20, so she's looking forward to her next semester in junior college and I am too. :o) She had waaaay too much free time on her hands with just her part-time job this summer. If you know what I mean...

Our cousin Sharon from L.A. decided to get in on the act too. (Thanks Sharon!) Here's what she had to say in response to the questions posed;

Q: What are your plans for the Labor Day weekend?
A: Since I have just had the opportunity to read the email and the Labor Day Weekend has just begun, my plan this weekend are to relax, lay back and enjoy it. We will be hanging in beautiful Pasadena, CA this weekend with extended family and I am sooooooooooooo looking forward to it.

Q: What’s your fondest childhood memory of getting ready to go back to school?
A: The fondest memory I have as a child of getting ready to go back to school is the excitement of wearing a new outfit!. Y'all know what I am talking about. It was brutal having to wait to wear the new clothes. To slip into that first new outfit that first day of school was some of the best memories I have of going back to school! I couldn't wait to see what other kids were wearing too and of course I thought my outfit was always the best.

Q: If you have kids, what are they saying/feeling about going back to school?
A: I have two children 15 and 18 years old. My 15 year old son is very excited to get back to school because that means the start of FOOTBALL season! As I said at the reunion, my daughter was preparing to go off to Grambling State University for school, however after we returned home we decided we would send her to University of Nebraska, Omaha where she received a full track scholarship. I took her off to Nebraska last week Thursday and it is one of the single most difficult things I have had to do in my life. I am extremely proud of her but I miss her tremendously.

Well that's it for me for the questions posed, hope all is well with everybody and i wish you peace, love and happiness. --Sharon G.
